WEDDING PLANNER: SUE FROM SPECIAL DAYS BY SUE

Ceremonies by Nikki Kulin, Costa Celebrant - Trusted wedding suppliers

Can you please introduce yourself?

My name is Suzanne Egan but I’m better known to my friends and couples as Sue! I am a wedding planner from Dublin, Ireland and I plan weddings in Ireland and in Spain. I work between Marbella, Malaga and Nerja where there are so many stunning venues to choose from. My business name is Special Days by Sue.

Please give me a couple of sentences about your business/services.

I plan bespoke weddings for my couples. These are weddings that truly represent each couple and bring the vision for their dream day to life. If the couple live in Ireland, I will come and meet them many times throughout the planning process. This helps couples in that they don’t need to travel to Spain to choose where they will have their big day. The couples only need travel over once before their wedding to visit their venue and do their trials. Everything else can be planned from the comfort of their own home. I give couples a large selection of beautiful venues to choose from in Marbella, Malaga and Nerja.

How long have you been operating and what inspired you to start?

As the expression goes “find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life” what is there not to love about a wedding! I have always loved weddings. As a young child I couldn’t pass a wedding without asking my parents to stop the car to let me watch. Before wedding planning I worked in the cosmetic industry for many years and I developed many important skills during that time which has helped in my success as a planner. I love working with people and there is so much satisfaction helping couples plan their special day. I started planning weddings in Ireland first and then quickly expanded into Spain due to my extensive knowledge for certain parts of the Costa del Sol. This has been a massive success as couples love getting married abroad and especially in the sunshine.

Can you outline one or two of your highlights from your 2019 wedding season?

It is so difficult to choose a highlight as every time I see my couples walking down the aisle as Mr & Mrs it gives me a great feeling of pride and makes me feel so happy and honoured to be part of another special day. There have been so many incredible moments from the 2019 season. I’ve loved listening to couples saying their vows at their ceremony; it always brings a smile, and sometimes a tear! I’ve also really loved getting to plan a first looks for four couples. They were magical moments full of emotion. I can’t wait for the next wedding season!

What is your unique selling point? What sets you apart from other similar suppliers in the area? I offer a unique and personalised service; my weddings are very bespoke and I have lots of options for the couples to choose from. I come and visit all of my couples where it is possible or do many video calls if they are not living in Ireland.

Include family and friends, celebrate your family traditions or create new ones.

What is your ‘Funniest Wedding Moment’?

There is always quite a few to choose from, but I got the best laugh when a bride to be had been searching for a particular style of shoes she wanted for her wedding day. She was disappointed she couldn’t get them. However, a few days before her wedding we met up and I was wearing the shoes she had been looking for. It was my first time to wear them. I took them off there and then and gave them to her and I wore her flip flops. We had a good giggle about that one
