Meet Lee Townsend, Musician
Can you please introduce yourself?
I'm Lee Townsend, a British musician living in Spain since 2006.
Please give me a couple of sentences about your business/services. I play guitar and sing as an acoustic solo performer. I cover a wide range of music including Paolo Nutini, Oasis, Ed Sheeran, The Kinks and Bob Marley amongst others.
How long have you been operating and what inspired you to start? I have been playing guitar since I was 9 years old and started playing weddings in 2007 with my rock band. After about 3 years, I began offering my solo performance.
Can you outline one or two of your highlights from your 2018 wedding season? My highlight from the 2018 season was meeting so many new suppliers and getting to play in several new wedding venues. The Nerja area boasts some amazing locations.
What is your unique selling point? What sets you apart from other similar suppliers in the area?
I would say what sets me apart from other musicians in the area is that I can offer a wider range of music than most. Aside from my solo set, I offer an acoustic trio and a rock band. This means I can offer anything from Ed Sheeran and Crowded House through to AC/DC and Dire Straits. With regards to my solo set, I use a loop pedal which enables me to create a kind of backing track but it's all recorded and sampled live and on the spot.
What is your ‘Funniest Wedding Moment’? My funniest wedding moment was in May 2016 when some clients (who are now good friends of mine) asked me to play The Proclaimers' "500 Miles" as we walked through the streets of Alhaurín El Grande. I was up front playing my acoustic guitar with the bride and groom whilst their 40 or 50 guests followed, all singing the chorus.
What would be your top tips for brides getting married here in Spain?
My advice to couples planning their wedding here in Spain is just to take it all in and enjoy it. Every bride and every groom I play for always say they can't get over how quickly the day goes. Also, trust your wedding planner. They know what they're doing!
